Learn more about our upcoming Future of CS Summit!
Full Story
The Future of CS: Emerging Concepts in CS Education summit is a half-day event designed to support K-12 computer science teachers with exposure and interactive practice with some of the key emerging topics in computer science education. During the summit, we’ll be exploring topics that include AI & machine learning, data science, cybersecurity, and robotics & physical computing. Keep reading to learn more about some of the fantastic sessions packed with strategies for incorporating these topics into your curriculum!
Robotics & Physical Computing
We’ve lined up six breakouts on the topic including sessions led by Micro:bit, Microsoft, and Amazon. We recommend you check out the “Edge Impulse Session” that will be led by Jenny Plunket – it’s a great session on this topic – as well as “Microbits Robotics/Physical Computing” led by Katie Henry.
AI & Machine Learning
Representatives from the AI4K12 Initiative will be joining us and providing grade-specific breakouts while Christina Gardner-McCune, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering at the University of Florida, will kick things off with an overview of how to engage K-12 students to big ideas in AI. The AI sessions will be broken down by grade bands, so you’ll be able to find something that fits your specific needs.
Data Science
Data science continues to evolve as a promising and in-demand career path. How do we prepare K-12 teachers to incorporate data science topics into their curriculum and explore the full spectrum of the data science life cycle? Robert Gould, Founder of ASA DataFest (an undergraduate data hackathon) and a Teaching Professor at UCLA joins us to share more about the topic and discuss best practices for teachers. We recommend you check out the “Data Science as a Foundation for Equity” session!
Cybersecurity
Our cybersecurity portion of the summit begins with an overview led by Derek Babb, a computer science teacher in Omaha, Nebraska, passionate about CS education. Babb will discuss the curriculum for high school cybersecurity in his session “Teaching Cybersecurity”.
